Spiderman
“With great power comes great responsibility”, probably one of the most famous comic book sentences of all time.
Peter Parker was a pretty ordinary, insecure teenager who lived with his grandparents and was in love with his pretty neighbor Mary Jane. He didn’t realize that a simple visit at the science lab would change his life forever.
His class attended a science exhibition about radiology, when Peter was bitten by a radioactive spider. For a few days he felt pretty much the same, but after a while he felt he’s becoming stronger and his senses were sharper.
He became incredibly strong and he could sense nearby danger, and Peter thought he could make money of it. That decision led to a chain of events that ended tragically, like most comic stories end.
To earn money Peter went to a wresting arena where he would fight the mighty Crusher Hugan. The Crusher didn’t have a chance of course, and Peter won the fight.
While going to collect his payment, a burglar ran by him, and Peter, although he could stop him, didn’t do so.
After getting his money Peter went home to find his uncle murdered by a burglar. Hunting the burglar down in a warehouse, Peter saw that the murderer was the same guy he didn’t stop. In his anger Peter revenged his uncle’s death, and that was the first time he understood the meaning of “
great power comes great responsibility”.
Spiderman is one of the 3 most famous superheroes ever came out of Marvel workshop, without a doubt.
For years the Spiderman character keeps us interested in the character and the story.
Like every good superhero story, there has to be a tragedy in the plot. In Hollywood they figured it out and the directors emphasized that in the plot.
IT started with the death of his beloved uncle by the hands of a thief that Peter Parker faced earlier that day and didn’t make an effort to stop him.
Their first encounter was when Peter came to claim his payment from a wrestling tournament he attended and the manager at the box office refused to give him all the money.
After a few minutes Peter saw someone running towards him with a bag of money that he stole from the same manager, and Peter simply let him escape, without knowing that this thief would be the one who would take his uncle’s life in a few hours.
The second tragedy was when Peter – Spiderman – killed the thief.
People might say that this is not a tragedy at all, but from Spiderman’s eyes it is – That is the first and only time he lost control and let his emotions take over his actions.
From his point of view he committed a murder and betrayed the values his uncle and aunt gave him. He should be the protector, not an executor.
The third and most profound issue is his relationship with Mary-Jane.
The Spiderman 3 movie put the relationship at the center of the plot, to show the complexity of Spiderman’s personality and responsibility.
He wants to tell her who he is and how he feels about her, but he knows that by that he puts her in risk, just like Superman did with Lois Lane.
I guess that’s why we love the character of Spiderman. We love the fact that he is a regular teenager like the rest of us, and not some alien. That he has feelings that he’s not afraid to show but too scared to reveal. That he seems to face all the day-to-day troubles that all of us are facing.
All of this makes Spiderman the most likable superhero of all times.
The Amazing Spiderman is about to be released in the next couple of weeks. After being a great comic issue and a terrific flash game, now we can see it in the theater and enjoy it once again!
