Spiderman – How it All Began

Spider-Man is a character which everyone is familiar with. In movies, Spider-Man played by Peter Parker is bitten by a spider which happens to be radioactive causing him to gain spider powers. It is only after the death of his uncle that Peter realizes that he can use his powers to protect his city and prevent innocent people from getting hurt and thus takes on the role of Spider-Man for New York City.

After being bit by the spider, Peter becomes granted with certain powers because the spiders bite causes mutagenic changes to occur in Peter’s body.

These changes cause him to gain powers such as super speed, strength, an even tougher flesh and other abilities. Super strength for example allowed him to be able to lift weight worth 10 tons and more, a weight a normal human is unable to lift. When fighting, his strength allows him to be able to kill a normal person as well!

Those of who have watched Spider-Man or even read comics, you would be aware that Spider-Man has the ability to jump from one building to another and is able to climb heights. This is because his super strength is not only part of his fighting ability but it also allows him to be able to jump almost 3 stories with just a single jump! Due to the strength, his body is also much more durable than a normal person and hence it is able to bear damage allowing him to fight many evils which hit the city.

Spider-Man’s super strength also gives him the stamina which a normal individual does not have. This allows him to withstand pressure and exert his body in situations in which a normal person would not be able to survive.

Another special ability which is possessed by Spider-Man is the power of healing. Due to being bit by the spider, Spider-Man is able to recover from severe injuries such as broken bones and damaged tissues within a matter of a few days. This is why after he was bit by the spider; he was able to regain his sight which was previously not normal.

Spider-Man has been such a popular character amongst children as well as adults that there have been video games released about him as well. One of the latest Spider-Man video games which were released in 2010 is Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions. This game allows the player to select from any four different universes in which he/she can play as Spider-Man. The aim of the game is to search for all the broken pieces which belong to a renowned tablet.

The latest Spider-Man video game is the Spider-Man: Edge of time which has been created by a company called Activision and Beenox. Beenox was allowed to create the game due to the immense popularity and success of the 2010 game, Shattered Dimensions. Both the games have a similar concept.

In this latest video game, Walker Sloan which is a villain created particularly for the game has managed to create a time machine so that he can go back to the past and begin Alchemex, the company for which Miguel O’Hara works. Miguel, who becomes aware of Sloan’s plans, tries to stop him but he too becomes stuck in the portal. This however allows him to be able to communicate with Spider-Man who is also now working for the same company, Alchemex. The game has its own thrill to it and is certainly very enjoyable for Spider-Man fans.

Next we have the movies which have been released over the years titled Spider-Man. So far, there have been 3 movie releases for Spider-Man and the fourth movie has been announced to be released in 2012.

The first movie which was released in 2002 begins with showing Peter Parker as an ordinary boy who lives with his uncle and aunt.

He also seems to have a thing for the girl who lives next door, Mary Jane. On a trip to a science exhibition along with his class, he gets bit by a super spider which happens to be engineered genetically. This causes him to develop a variety of skills which no human has the capability of possessing. He begins to feel extra strength, speed, and starts becoming extra aware and also develops a web spinning talent.

However Peter does not know what to do with these exceptional skills he is now blessed with until his uncle dies a death which could have been prevented. This leads him to accept his new powers and take on the role of Spider-Man. The first evil character he faces is the Green Goblin in this movie who attacks the people of New York City along with putting Mary Jane’s life in danger, something which Peter cannot have. This causes him to defeat the Green Goblin and win the heart of Mary Jane, someone he has loved for long.

2 years later in 2004 we have the second release of Spider-Man. The movie shows Peter now as a student of the Empire State University and the task of being Spider-Man and defending his city really getting to be a tough task. And due to his added duty of defending the country, he has to let go of his social life. Another problem which he has to deal with is that his powers have begun to give up on him, particularly when he needs them most.

As the movie goes along, Harry Osborn, his new best friend and the Chief Executive Officer of Oscorp invites him to view an experiment being conducted by Dr. Otto Octavius. The experiment however goes horribly wrong and causes the death of Dr. Octaviu’s wife.

The movie goes on and Mary Jane informs Peter that she is getting married to John, son of J. Jonah Jameson. Along with this, Peter also informs his aunt that he was the one responsible for the death of his uncle, news which she does not respond to very well. With so many problems in his life, Peter Parker throws away his Spider-Man suit so that he can have a normal life. However, without Spider-Man’s existence, the crime rate in the city reaches sky high!

The third Spider-Man movie which was released in 2007 shows Mary Jane now as Peter’s girlfriend, and someone whom he wishes to get married to. In the movie, Peter is informed that the person responsible for his uncle’s death is still alive and on the loose and no one has been able to find him.

The killer goes by the name Flint Marko becomes the Sandman as his atoms become infused with sand. The Sandman however is not the only evil character that Spider-Man has to deal with; Harry Osborn now becomes the second Green Goblin and wants his revenge on Peter as well! To top it all off, an alien is also after Spider-Man to try to poison him and kill him. With so many enemies to deal with, will Spider-Man survive?

The recurring actors who have helped in making the Spider-Man movie series a success so far are Toby McGuire who plays the lead role of Spider-Man, Kristen Dunst who plays the role of Mary Jane, James Franco who plays the role of Harry Osborn and Rosemary Harris who plays the role of Spider-Man’s Aunt.

Other than movies and games, TV shows have also been released based on the story of Spider-Man. It was in 1967 that Spider-Man was first aired on Television and the last of its airing was done in 2008 with episodes still expected to be released in the upcoming 2012. Comic books have also been released which have been a great hit amongst all fans of Spider-Man. It has been an overall success ever since its launch and has even won a number of awards. It has been nominated for Oscars which the second movie release of Spider-Man won, the American Choreography Award, the BAFTA film award, the Critics Choice Award which was also won by the 2004 release and the Grammy’s.

The Spider-Man saga has been a hit for the past ten years and with its fourth release scheduled for 2012, the expectations are high and it is likely to be as great a movie as its counterparts. Spider-Man may be a fictional character but it has definitely captured the hearts of many individuals all over the world who are hard core fans of this character and defend him against anyone who has a bad word to say just in the same way as Spider-Man is responsible for protecting his city from evildoers.

Every time we see a spider, Spider-Man is the first person who comes to mind due his connection with the spider. Many kids even believe that if they too were bit by a spider, they would become just like their favorite superhero. Spider-Man has not failed to conquer the hearts of people all over the world who wait anxiously for the new release. Hopefully, it shall meet the expectations of people all over the world.
